The theme of this year’s Ohio Genealogical Society’s annual conference is “Genealogical Expedition: Road to Kalahari 2014.” I attended this conference last year and feel it’s worthy of a plug. The event will be held at the Kalahari Resorts and Convention Center, America’s largest indoor water park, in Sandusky, Ohio from April 30th thru May 3rd. There are some top-notch speakers on tap including J. Mark Lowe, Judy G. Russell, and Warren Bittner.
Of special interest to German researchers is Warren Bittner’s “Introduction to German Church Books” workshop: “Learn the basics of German church books, such as baptismal, marriage, and death records, in this hands-on workshop. Study examples of the various records found in German church books, as well as learn common vocabulary terms to help you decipher the records of your Germanic ancestors.” Also, Rebecca B. Hill’s “German Migration to Northwest Ohio” class will explore German settlement in that part Ohio, as well as available genealogical resources.
